This is Atwar

I was standing here listening to music and watching a 3v3 and a cw. Some thoughts passed through my mind. Every day, dozens or maybe hundreds of people gather around a map (Europe, world, ancient or w/e) to conquer their enemies, to discover new allies or maybe old friends, to forget for a hour - or five - of the cross we have to bear in this world and to enjoy a game, which imo looks a lot like chess. Yes, Enjoy! this game, I love looking at the map and seeing countries exchanging owners, people talking the chat, analysing or getting together for a harmless -or not so harmless- banter. How this game united all? What does it have? A simple game, country shapes, military units, strategies and 'strategy'. I like looking that things are done in this game, innovations which I couldn't comprehend as possible. Cheers to that! Have you ever opened 1 or 2 aw tabs to looks at games and then go roam the internet and come back and see a color spread abundently on the map and the clock at 3:59? I have and a lot of times. Watching these games, predicting what would X or Y would do, being surprised, being overwhelmed or even disappointed by some play. The sentiments this game inspires me are similar to when I watch football. A formidable goal in an impossible circumstance, a formidable spreading in enemy's territory on reinforcement turn and then you see that 'gg', that 'wp' or after that in a /pr. And your heart warms, you have won. And the spectators heart warms a bit, he had seen something interesting and for free! This is Atwar! People I've known for years and years and they are still here. Playing, inventing plays, wrecking the competitive or the scenario scene, shaking hands with old enemies, making friends out of nowhere, defeating unconquereable foes. And being glad. Am I right to say that lots of you felt happy on aw? I am not talking now of real life, or of the countless joys the real life can provide. I am talking about a few pixels on a screen which move quite slowly.
Coming back to the original question: what does unites us all? Is it nationality? No and that's a good thing, if I open the general chat I can see everyday people from all the continents from dozens and dozens of countries, getting together. We speak a common language (and many improve their English here), we have common goals and hurdles in life as we are all young and full of power. So let's cherish this, let's cherish our time spend together, let's be good as people and good as players. Let's live this life to the fullest, let's reach the top of the world, together and when we'll be old, let's remember a beautiful cw against illy, a desperate duel against dominoz or a time when someone made us laugh here so hard that our jaw and ribs hurt us. Let's appreciate each other, let's share our dreams and sentiments and let's play this beautiful game, together

No but in all seriousness you're completely right. I've met dozens of people who i've laughed/chat hours/days with, and its really crazy to think how they are all spread across the globe. Unfortunately alot of those persons moved on or just got fed up with some parts of this game, but came back during this corona crisis, and relived some of the moments.

You're right that we need to make the best out of it and stop with the toxicity. Harmless banter/troll is fun, and there should be room for that, but when it gets obnoxious or deliberately ruins the fun for others, thats where it needs to stop.

We need this positivity, and yes i agree with all u said freeman, from one passionate aw player to the next.

One of my favorite memories is having met up with 4chan in south australia after playing atwar with the guy since 2012, we then went and drank in a playground with a crackhead(his friend), i have a video of 4chan drunkenly thinking he is in the Olympics or something.

well he moved out of that flat ages ago, i haven't seen the owner of the place post anymore photos of it so maybe they gave it away. Sorry to disappoint you xD
